The Hotel de la Cite is set in an enchanting medieval citadel amidst immaculate, romantic gardens, between two historical landmarks – the Romanesque Chateau Comtal and the Gothic Basilica of Saint-Nezaire – in a simply breathtaking fairytale city bursting with history, cultural heritage and outstanding cuisine. Ancient ramparts and turrets surround the citadel, a hilltop fortress based above the River Aude, complete with solid stone walls, wood panelling, stained-glass windows and cobblestone paths. The hotel has a number of its own dining options to choose from, not to mention the Michelin-starred restaurant, La Barbacane. Groups of ten have the option of tickling their taste buds during a medieval candlelit dinner in the fully restored wine cellar, a place where private wine tasting can also be arranged, offering guests the region’s finest wines. Other than sightseeing, the hotel provides easy access to plenty of activities including golfing and white-water rafting. Looking out onto the ramparts of the citadel or its picturesque gardens, Deluxe rooms offer 25 square metres of pure luxury, complete with carved wood panelling, stunning tapestries and stained glass windows. The rooms offer a king or twin beds, a desk and two comfortable arm-chairs, not to mention spacious marble bathrooms with an abundance of toiletries.
